Take a Trip to the National Naval Aviation Museum
You don’t have to be a huge fan of planes to appreciate the exhibits at the National Naval Aviation Museum. Found in Pensacola and displaying more than 150 restores aircraft along with more than 4,000 artefacts this museum really is set to impress. The pieces represent the Coast Guard and the Navy Marine Corps aviation and they really are a must-see. You’ll be pleased to know that admission to the museum is completely free as is the parking which is handy if you have hired a car.
If you happen to be in Florida during the months of March through ‘til November you should head on down to the museum on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning as you’ll have the opportunity to see the Blue Angels practice a few of their breath-taking skills. Like I said before, you don’t have to be a huge fan of planes or the aviation world for that matter to enjoy the museum, it really is quite impressive.
Splash Around at Sun Splash Park
Located at Daytona Beach, Sun Splash Park offers you the chance to enjoy a fun day out. You do have to pay to drive along the area, but you don’t have to pay to enter the park. If the sun is hot why not make your way to the shaded playground where your little ones can burn off some of their energy? You could also make your way to the interactive waterplay fountain, which is a must-see, followed by a bite to eat in the picnic area. This park really is a great place to visit and you and the whole family can be entertained from the moment the sun comes up right until the sun goes down again. If you visit Sun Splash Park during the summer months you may want to enjoy some of the free concerts that take place by the beach, adding a touch of something special to your day out.
Spend Some Time with the Fish
If you’re a lover of fish or watersports you may want to head to the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Spanning an impressive 2,800 square miles the sanctuary runs from Miami right to the Tortugas, a group of islands that are found in the Gulf of Mexico. The very diverse eco-system is home to kelp forests, coral reefs and some very interesting archaeological sites. With free entry to visitors and offering you the chance to take a kayak or canoe out on the water, you can enjoy spending some time watching out for wildlife that you may not see anywhere else.
Don’t forget to pop into the Eco-Discovery Center which is home to some of the areas native plants and animals. Learn more about South Florida’s eco-system and enjoy the interactive exhibits that are there to delight everyone. While you’re here, be sure to visit the Mote Marine Laboratory which is a living reef exhibit that is home to tropical fish, corals and so much more.
