It is no secret that most people want to get healthier and fitter, but with gym prices being so high, health gadgets costing a fortune and health foods generally costing more than regular foods, it can be difficult to start a new and healthier lifestyle when you are on a budget.
Luckily there are plenty of ways you can drop a dress size without breaking the bank. All it takes is determination, a little research, and some effort and soon you will be fitter and healthier and still have money in your pocket.
Below are some of the best money-saving fitness tips to get you started:
Free fitness
There are loads of free fitness classes out there! Not only do most gyms have free trials for their gyms and fitness classes, but you can also download free fitness apps, train along to fitness videos on YouTube or even find and download a free running program online.
Frozen vegetables
It can seem like a bit of a waste to buy loads of vegetables only for you to throw them out because you are not able to eat them all before they go off. Luckily most supermarkets sell bags of frozen vegetables, which you can easily pull straight out of the freezer, boil in hot water and then you are good to go!
Buy in bulk
Whenever possible, buy in bulk. Look at how much something costs per gram rather than the total price; get the big tub of low-fat yogurt, get the multipack of protein bars and get the big box of oatmeal. If you are hitting it hard with the muscle training, or if you simply want to add a bit of protein to your diet, brands like Sports Supplements NZ have daily deals on big bulks of protein powder.
Cook in bulk
Similar to the tip above: bulk is the best! Buy loads of vegetables, spend a Saturday or Sunday cooking a big bowl of vegetable stew – or another favorite healthy recipe – and divide into separate containers and freeze the lot. Not only will you save money by freezing cooked vegetables before they go off, but you will also be less tempted to spend your cash on takeaway if you know you have a healthy meal good-to-go in the freezer.
Drink water
This one may seem a bit obvious, but drink water, then more water, then even more water. Water is not only good for you, but it is also free! Drop all sodas and energy drinks and just stick with the water. Both your health and your wallet will thank you.
Get inspired
Read, research and get inspired! There are plenty of health blogs out there that can give you tips on fitness, healthy cooking and how to stay healthy on a budget. Pinterest is a good place to start. If you sign up, you can even create your own boards and keep all your health links stored in one place.
