Quick, Easy and Inexpensive Kitchen Makeover Ideas
The kitchen is one of the rooms in the house that we spend the most time using. Not only does it have to be practical, but it also needs to be functional. If you are starting to feel that you are running out of space, or even if you just want to make over your kitchen, then here are a few ideas you can use. It doesn’t have to be expensive; there are many things you can do on a budget.
Cabinets
If your cabinets are looking old or tired, then you can easily give them a little make over. If you don’t have the money to replace them, why not try covering them with paint or decals?
It might take a little time depending on the number you need to do, but it will look great when it’s finished. Chooser your color to complement the color scheme you have used in connecting rooms. You can also change the handles to something more contemporary.
To make the cabinets look more modern, you can remove one of the cabinet doors and paint the inside a contrasting color to the outside. You can then use it as a contemporary shelf storage.
Flooring
When it comes to flooring for your kitchen, it can get quite expensive to replace the floor with wood or tiles. Fortunately, there have been advances in vinyl flooring so that it looks almost genuine.
You can get many different designs from stone effect tiles to wood effect planks. The good thing is they are cheap to buy and easy to lay.
Walls
With so many cupboards and shelves, you might not have much wall space to work with, but you can cheaply add a bit of color to the walls with paint. Try not to choose a color that is too dark or it will make your kitchen look dark and unwelcoming.
You can also try your hand at tiling; it isn’t as difficult as it might seem and with wall tiles you don’t have to mix the adhesive as it comes ready prepared.
Lighting
Lighting is where you can add an atmosphere to your kitchen. By placing your lights strategically, you can create a dramatic look and still be functional.
You can try some LED recessed lighting in the ceiling or under your cabinets that will illuminate the room to impressive effect. You don’t have to go for a high wattage bulb; the lower wattage will give a pleasant soft glow.
Old Furniture
If you have an old table and chairs, why not bring them back to life with a quick lick of paint? If they have been painted before, you will need to strip the wood and then paint. It is a good idea to use the same color paint that you used for the walls; then they can blend in together and provide continuity of scheme.
These are a few of the ideas you can use to brighten up your kitchen and make it feel old fashioned. You can even do it on a budget.
