If you’re thinking about redesigning your home this year, you need to consider what features and furniture to keep and which ones you should get rid of. It’s best to do this room by room, and on this post, we’re going to check out the bedroom. We’ll look at some of the different features that you might have in your bedroom and decide whether they need to go or if you can keep them while perhaps making some improvements. Are you ready to get started?
Lamp Lighting
If you have lamps around your room, you may find that they have fallen out of fashion. The problem with lamps is that they create a shadow. This makes a room look smaller and also a tad dreary. The benefit of lamps are that they can be switched on and off without climbing in and out of bed. You can have one close by on a bedside table which is the perfect option for reading late at night.
However, these days, you can also get smart bulbs. They can be switched on and off by vocal commands. As such, there’s no need for your bedroom to have those dull lamps. And, if you are still using halogen bulbs, you should at least consider switching to LEDs for a greener, brighter bedroom.

Sitting On The Sofa
You might have a sofa in your room, and you may be thinking about getting rid of it. This does make some sense as it will free up some space in your bedroom which will be useful if it’s cramped. However, it will also mean that you’ll no longer have a place to sit other than the bed. Studies show that if you spend your time sitting on the bed, you can actually impact your sleeping pattern and you may find it more difficult to shut your eyes and snooze. As such, having a separate seating area in the bedroom is a smart option. Verdict: Stay
The Basic Bed
If you have recently moved into your home, you might have purchased a basic bed. This won’t provide the best level of comfort, and it won’t even look stylish in your home. That’s why you should think about upgrading to a better bed. For instance, platform beds can be purchased with a solid surface. The benefit of a solid surface is that it will make your mattress feel firmer. This is fantastic if you want extra support for your back, but there are still holes to make sure there is air flow under the bed. These beds also come in stylish designs, so there’s at least two reasons to upgrade.
Verdict: Go
Flowery Curtains
While they may look homely, flowery, frilly curtains are actually seriously outdated these days. Instead, you want something more minimalistic and dare we say it, even plain? This, while more boring, will make your bedroom look at little more stylish and contemporary. You might also want to think about just opting for some basic blinds. They won’t intrude as much on the room as curtains do.
